Terms of service

Ledger of Life is a personal finance ledger operated by DiBernardo Ventures LLC. These terms explain what you get, what you pay, and what happens if either of us stops.

What Ledger of Life is

Software that gives a household one place to see its money: account balances, transactions, net worth, cash flow, budgets and plans, investments and privately-held assets. You either enter your data or connect your own accounts, and Ledger organizes it.

It is sold as an annual subscription. The price is whatever is shown at checkout when you subscribe.

What Ledger of Life is not

Ledger never holds, moves, transmits, or invests your money. There is no wallet, no custody, no trading, no transfers, no payments between users, and no account that money can sit in. It reads and organizes information about accounts you already hold elsewhere.

Ledger is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and it is not a broker, bank, adviser, or accountant. It shows you your own numbers and does arithmetic on them. Decisions are yours, and for anything consequential you should talk to a professional who is licensed to advise you.

Where Ledger lets you record cryptocurrency you hold, it records quantities you type in and shows a market price. It never takes custody of an asset, never holds keys, and never executes a trade or transfer.

Where Ledger is available

Ledger of Life is currently sold to households in the US and Canada, and is billed in US dollars. If you are outside those two countries, we are not able to sell you a subscription today.

That matches where the product genuinely works: our bank and brokerage connections reach the US and Canada. Further afield, connections can generally see banks and cards but not brokerages or retirement accounts.

Your account and your household

You need an account to use Ledger, and your account belongs to a household. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what the people you invite into your household do with the data in it. Household members you invite can see the household's financial data; you choose whether they can also change it.

You must be at least 18, and you must not use Ledger for anything unlawful or to store data you have no right to.

Bank and brokerage connections

Connections are made through Plaid, and only for accounts you choose. Ledger receives read-only information — balances, transactions, holdings. It cannot move money through a connection, and it never sees or stores your bank password. You can disconnect an institution at any time, and your imported history stays in your ledger when you do.

Institutions and Plaid sometimes change or end connections on their own. That happens, it is outside our control, and it is not a failure of the subscription.

There is no fixed cap on how many institutions a household can connect — connect what your finances genuinely have. The one expectation is fair use: connections are for your own household's ordinary finances, not for running books at commercial scale or sharing one subscription across households. If a household's footprint drifts far beyond ordinary personal use, we will talk to you about it before anything else happens — and whatever the outcome, nothing you have built gets deleted.

Your data is yours

You keep ownership of everything you put into Ledger. Each household's data lives in its own database, encrypted at rest. You can export your data at any time, including after you stop paying.

How data is handled, who can reach it, and how AI-assisted support works are all described in the privacy notice, which is part of these terms.

Paying, and what happens if you stop

Subscriptions are billed annually in advance and renew unless you cancel. You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops the next renewal and does not end the period you already paid for.

If a subscription ends, you do not lose your ledger. It becomes read-only: everything you built stays visible and exportable, you simply cannot add to it. Your bank connections keep updating for a grace period, and after that they are closed — which stops the cost of maintaining them. Nothing is deleted because you stopped paying.

Refunds are covered by the refund policy.

Deleting your account

You can ask for your household to be deleted at any time. When you do, your data is removed from the production systems within 30 days, and encrypted backups age out on their own schedule after that. Ask by writing to [email protected].

Availability, and the beta

Ledger is offered as-is. It is actively developed and features change. We aim to keep it running and backed up, but we do not promise uninterrupted service, and you should not treat Ledger as the only copy of anything that matters to you.

Some parts of the product — currently the Time and Health ledgers — are early and included at no extra cost as they develop.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, DiBernardo Ventures LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before it arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Because Ledger organizes information rather than providing advice, we are not responsible for financial decisions you make using it, or for errors in data supplied by your institutions.

Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time. We can end an account that is being used unlawfully, that abuses the service, or whose payments fail — and if we do, you will be told, and you will be given the chance to export your data first.
